To give our cleaners enough time to complete the additional cleaning and sanitising that is currently needed to keep our guests safe, check-in and check-out times at the majority of our properties have been temporarily revised. The revised times for this property are reflected above.
A feature of Southwold's seafront for many years, The Craighurst has been both a hotel and a 'crammer' - Eric Blair prepared for his Indian Police Service exams here before he became better known as the writer George Orwell. Today it's home to the noteworthy No 9, a stunning duplex with spectacular sea views.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
On the second floor, a beautiful king-size room plus another with twin beds both enjoy uninterrupted sea views - open the windows and you'll be woken gently by the sound of the waves! Also off the spacious landing here, a double-bedded room has views across the rooftops to the lighthouse and St Edmunds Church. The family bathroom is fresh, bright and decorated in cheerful coastal colours; it has both a bath and a separate shower cubicle.
Cooking and dining
Your first-floor kitchen/dining room which is large and spacious, is exceptionally well-equipped with plenty of storage space. Whilst every home must-have is included: electric hob and oven, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. A spacious dining suite is set before the period fireplace and flooded with light thanks to the large kitchen window and glazed double doors which lead into the sea-facing sitting room. A small study provides an additional space with a small sofa should two of the party want to relax in another area of the property; there are also doors opening out onto the balcony.
This is a large comfortable room with high ceilings and a big bay window. It has magnificent views of the sea and pier. It still has it's original elegant marble fireplace. There is a fully glazed door leading onto the balcony. There is a Smart TV and DVD player.
With the beach on its doorstep, 9 The Craighurst is perfectly positioned for a buckets-and-spades holiday. But you can enjoy a bird's eye view of the day's activities from your own private balcony, which is accessed through fully-glazed doors from the sitting room and study.
There's plenty of space for buckets and spades, wellies and waterproofs in the entrance hall, so bring what you need, whatever the weather! Wi-Fi is provided, and there are TVs in both the sitting room and king-size bedroom if you need a night in. Roadside parking is available nearby. Please note a refundable security deposit is required upon booking. Regret no pets.
