Description

Intro

The artist-owner’s attention to detail delights throughout this inclusive family home. A wheelchair-friendly ground floor, rooms filled with light, en suites to each bedroom and a landscaped garden all combine to create a carefree retreat for all to enjoy – the family pets can come too!

Bedrooms and bathrooms

The whole of the ground floor is designed to be wheelchair-friendly(M2 accessibility level), and features a charming twin-bedded room which has a large bay window, seating area furnished with two armchairs and a TV, plus an adjacent wet room. Above, on the first floor the double-bedded master bedroom has an en suite shower room and extensive views over ancient Buss Creek and the surrounding countryside – views shared by a twin-bedded room that additionally boasts a gorgeous en suite bathroom complete with enticing double-ended roll-top bath. A third bedroom on this floor has a double bed, great views over the garden and an en suite shower room. Well-dressed windows, soothing colour schemes and some original period details deliver comfort and calm in every bedroom here.

Cooking and dining

A spacious, stylish open plan living area welcomes guests into the heart of this lovely holiday home and is filled with light thanks to fully-opening patio doors that offer level access to a south-facing decking area beyond. Three squashy sofas, polished concrete flooring and a collection of wooden and painted furniture complement the refectory-style dining table and chairs, while the high-gloss kitchen includes electric oven and induction hob, microwave, dishwashers, under-counter fridge, separate freezer and larder.

Outside

Unwind in a garden that’s been imaginatively designed by the property’s owner, who for many years has exhibited his sculptures at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Access to the lower garden deck is through folding patio doors from the dining area and is one-level so that wheelchair users can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine, and an open-sided garden room with a green ‘living roof’ creates a covered seating area specially positioned for views of the setting sun. The south-facing garden has oak-decked sitting areas and access paths and mainly planted with shrubs and small trees – there’s outdoor furniture too, for al fresco refreshments

Practicalities

Accessible facilities boost the family-friendly credentials of this impressive holiday home, and they’re furthered by the welcome extended to up to two pets plus the provision of a travel cot and highchair for the safety of younger visitors.  Underfloor heating, radiators and a woodburner in the living area assure comfort all year round – a small basket of logs will be provided for winter guests – and Egyptian cotton bedlinen, bath and hand towels and energy costs are included in your holiday price. Parking for a small car or storage for bikes is provided in a garage to the rear of the garden, and a cupboard off the entrance hall houses a combined washing machine and dryer plus a water softener. WiFi, a TV with Netflix, BBC iPlayer and digital channels, a BluRay DVD player and a Hi-Fi system with iPhone/iPad dock will keep everyone entertained at the end of a busy day.

Mrs Kate S,

Had a simply wonderful holiday and fell in love with this beautiful home! It's unique artistic touches made it feel homely and special.

Past Customer,

We appreciated the downstairs bathroom for people with disabilities. The location was quiet and peaceful overall. We very much enjoyed the open plan living area and kitchen leading to the outside via sliding doors made it a lovely room for socialising and entertaining . In addition having ensuite bathrooms to each of the four bedrooms was a bonus as we were a party of all adults. The owner was very kind and helpful

Past Customer,

Past Customer,

Skimming stones is a lovely cottage to stay in, it had everything we needed. Everyone had a place to disappear to. We loved the fact that the kitchen, dining room and living room are open planned. Southwold has happy memories for me and my family. It never disappoints us. We're always sad to go home.

Natasha T,

Very enjoyable holiday! Very quiet and easy to park and the house was very comfortable and spacious. The owners had left scones, jam and clotted cream which was very welcoming. We have been to Southwold many times as it is a great holiday location. We would highly recommend Skimming Stones as it is a wonderful holiday property with its large kitchen/ dining/ living room which is great for a family gathering. We would highly recommend this property!
