Bay View

The Georgian elite made the seaside their playground – now you can too with a holiday at this elegant home that’s full of original features, far-reaching views and tasteful finishing touches

The quiet, understated elegance of Georgian times is echoed within this gorgeous Grade II listed seafront house, just the shortest of walks from the water’s edge.  Lovingly restored with classic furnishings, beautiful fabrics and a soft palette of colours, the former lighthouse keeper’s home is enjoying a charming renaissance. Fabulously comfortable and convenient, a stay here with family, friends or as a couple is sure to be stress-free… leaving might not be quite so easy!

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Two beautiful bedrooms are the setting for soothing sleeps here – the reassuring rhythm of the sea as it swells and ebbs will transport you to the land of nod before you know it! Both on the first floor, each is reassuringly luxurious and boasts its own spacious en suite bathroom, complete with walk-in shower, separate full-sized bath, heated towel rail and underfloor heating.  Enjoying splendid views of East Cliff and the coast, the elegant master bedroom has contemporary country-style furnishings and a fabulous super-king-sized bed. A floor-to-ceiling window in the second bedroom affords views over the garden and its bed can be made up as a small double or two singles… just tell us which you’d prefer and we’ll take care of it. On the ground floor, a cloakroom is tucked away just off the boot room for the ultimate in convenience.

Cooking and dining

A relaxing sitting room may make the most of the spectacular sea views, but there’s equal delight to be found in the characterful kitchen and dining room, where quarry tiled floors and an original cooking range are among the many authentic features.  Every modern must-have is here too, including a Nespresso coffee machine, gas hob and cooker, full-size fridge, separate freezer, microwave and ample storage space, while there’s comfortable dining space at the refectory-style table. Access to the private courtyard garden is via the kitchen – in clement weather you can enjoy food and drinks al fresco thanks to the teak table and chairs here.

Just beyond the grass of East Cliff, steps lead down to the promenade and all the fresh air, sights and sounds of the seafront; dawn breaks first along this stretch of the English coast, so it’s worth waking up early for a front-row seat at sunrise. As a tranquil contrast to all the seaside action, the enclosed courtyard garden here is private and peaceful. Accessed via the kitchen or boot room it’s prettily planted and complete with bistro-style furniture, while a gated passageway to the side of the property offers outside storage for bikes, buckets, spades and windbreaks.

Southwold’s reputation as a pet-friendly resort is upheld here, as one well-behaved dog is very welcome to join in all your holiday fun – with an enclosed garden and the beach just moments away, there’s plenty of opportunity for fresh air and a stretch of the legs. A boot room affords ample storage space for shoes, coats and beach accessories, and there’s additional space for larger items in the private, gated passageway to the side of the property. A handy laundry room on the first floor comes complete with a washing machine, tumble dryer and butler’s sink, and we can provide a highchair for the comfort of younger guests if required

Excellent property will definitely book again.
